The San Bernardo vineyard is the prize vineyard of Palladino. It faces south/south-east within the Serralunga d’Alba commune of Barolo. ONLY 340 cases were made of the 2001 vintage. Mr. Palladino uses the traditional method of fermentation taking 20 to 24 days to complete the transformation, which gives the wine multiple layers of flavors and aromas. 4 years of aging total: 2 years in French barrique + 1 year in Slovenian oak casks + 1 year in bottle.

90 points WINE SPECTATOR: "Velvety Barolo with spices, leather and tea as well as dried fruits. Full-bodied and caressing. It's an old style of Barolo with lots of character. Best after 2006. 340 cases made." –JS
